Beauty Regimes Then and Now

I was watching my girl getting ready for a big night out recently and was in awe of the regime that was involved in beautifying oneself!  It took me back in time to the 1970s when I was just a girl getting ready for the local dance. How times have changed!

BEAUTY REGIME THENNOW
HairCurly hair was in. If you didn’t have a perm, you might spend all day Saturday in rollers or use heated rollers to get that lovely head of curls.  You then used copious amounts of hair spray to keep it all in place.Straight and sleek or tousled natural curls.  There are a number of aids to achieve these   looks, including the straightener, curling wands and flat irons. Prior to using these appliances you apply product to your hair. Then finish it off with some more product to keep it looking natural.
TanningSunbaked all day with baby oil slathered all over.  If we were flushed with cash we might treat ourselves to a session in the Solarium.Spray Tans are rife!  You can spend a quick $50 getting an all over tan ranging in shades of deep dark brown to orange.  Otherwise you can buy yourself a can of spray tan and attempt to apply it evenly in your parent’s bathroom.  (Mum really appreciates the fact that her once white towels are stained with orange marks and the floor tiles look like someone has spread mud on them!)
NailsFind the old metal nail file and DIY manicure.  Apply nail polish in a lovely shade of pink or if you are really ‘out there’ a fire engine red!Go to a Manicurist and have nail extensions followed by the application of nail polish to match the outfit you are wearing that evening.  While you are there have a pedicure as well!

Yes things were so much simpler back in the old days, Aras. Although I love some of the old beauty products, I still get excited when I walk into a Sephora shop. All those beauty products stacked on the shelves makes me want to buy the entire shop!

Thanks Anne, we were fairly basic and unsophisticated back in the 70's. We also didn't tend to spend a lot of money on beautifying ourselves compared to the girls of today. But spit in my mascara - never tried that one!

I loved reading this. Thinking about what my mom used to do to get gorgeous. I remember a cake of mascara moistened with spit. Gross!
