10 Easy & Traditional Thanksgiving Sides

Still need side dish recipes for your turkey day feast? Try one of these easy and traditional Thanksgiving side dish recipes.Traditional thanksgiving side dish recipes.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

The secret to creamy mashed potatoes is not over-mashing them so the starches get all glue-y. For perfect mashed potatoes, I like to use a potato ricer. They are inexpensive, process a whole batch of potatoes quickly, and give the absolute best texture to what’s really the most important side dish on the Thanksgiving table.

The recipe above uses a slow cooker, which is a nice way to free up a burner on a busy cooking day. Also, you can make ahead and freeze mashed potatoes before Thanksgiving to make the day easier.

Cheesy Green Bean Casserole

I’m not going to lie, I’m mostly into the green bean casserole for the french fried onions and the nostalgia of it all. I make it once a year for Thanksgiving. If I were to skip a year, there would be a riot. Here’s a green bean casserole that goes the extra mile and adds cheese. So you know it’s good.

Traditional Stuffing

I love stuffing so much, I make two different kinds for Thanksgiving. One is cornbread and spicy sausage and the other is a classic bread and sage. The recipe here from Averie Cooks is that second, classic dressing. Just bread, onion, celery, and the traditional herbs that make you think of family around the table, ready to eat turkey.

Apple Cranberry Sauce

Why do we only eat cranberries one day a year? This sweet and tart cranberry sauce with apples and cinnamon will make you want to make it all autumn long. Save some for that sandwich made with leftovers you eat on Friday! #MoistMaker

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

If it’s from Pinch of Yum you know it’s good. This really is the easiest garlic mashed potato recipe. I don’t usually make side dishes with too much garlic for Thanksgiving. I like to focus on sage usually. This recipe may be my new exception.

Creamy Green Bean Casserole

Traditional green bean casseroles usually use frozen green beans. Here’s a recipe for a traditional-style green bean casserole for Thanksgiving that you cook from scratch. A great option for accommodating allergies or special diets, or if you just don’t want to use canned soup.

Sweet Potato Casserole

I tell myself sweet potato casserole is healthy. Just ignore the delicious butter and all those marshmallows. If you are like me and don’t like marshmallows on sweet potato casserole, just omit them, or only put them on half the dish.

Cornbread Stuffing

This make-ahead cornbread stuffing can be cooked on Thanksgiving, or made well ahead of time and frozen until the night before. Defrost it in the fridge and finish warming up in the oven right after the turkey comes out.

Supreme Green Bean Casserole

You think you’ve seen all the green bean casseroles, but you haven’t seen them all until you seen the supreme!

Spiced Cranberry Sauce

Another Thanksgiving crockpot recipe. Set this and let it cook whil you take care of other things. This will also freeze well. Use up the extra like jelly if you have leftovers.
