Men Saying Ouch – From Stubbed Toes to Labor Pains

Once upon a very long time ago, I thought that the difference between boys and girls was . . . well I didn’t think there was a difference. Except for the way that parents treat their kids, depending on their genders.

I was wrong. You can read about one of the first times that I got to experience these inherent differences here.

In my defense, back then I only had two kids and both were girls.

I’ve since had the pleasure of birthing two more kids and one of those little bundles of joys – although a teenager now – is a boy. Let me tell you, nothing teaches you about the gender difference like raising an assortment of varied kids.

One of my very first thoughts upon being informed that I was growing a baby boy all those years ago was: “Yayyy! I’ll get to raise my vision of a man.”

Well guess what? Apart from teaching good values, politeness and courtesy, we really have no say as to what kind of people babies will grow into. Baby boys and girls grow up to be themselves – no matter what their gender happens to be.

I was loudly reminded of this over the weekend when “somebody” (without mentioning which one, we’ll just call this somebody “one of my kids”) stubbed his toe. By his reaction you would have thought that the sun – in all its radiant glory – had just dropped on his foot.

Now I’m not saying that boys and “my vision of a man” shouldn’t react to pain. And I’m not denying that stubbing a digit can cause some of the most horrifying pain known to man. Well, except maybe giving birth. But there’s one flaw to this theory: man does not actually give birth, does he?

I know what you’re thinking and I just learned about this recently from an informative Facebook post . . .

That man actually DOES give birth: if he’s a seahorse.

As I was consoling said teenager from the horrors of stubbing one’s toe (by the way, he accomplished this while walking up the stairs), I couldn’t help but remember a video I saw where two men were hooked up to electrodes for an induced simulated labor experience.

Once the howling and crying came to a manageable level here at toe stubbing headquarters, I did a quick search and found the video for you.

Enjoy!

PS. I suggest you don’t watch this at work because you will laugh out loud.
