When most women think about age spot removal, expensive surgery or other painful treatments spring to mind. Fortunately, there’s another option. While makeup can’t get rid of your age spots permanently, it can help you to soften their effects.
In this video, our guest, Sylvia, had spent a lot of time in sunny Brazil. Even though she had lovely skin, Sylvia was concerned about pigmentation, uneven skin tone and age spots.
Professional makeup artist, Ariane Poole, took her through a number of steps to help address these concerns and gave her a beautiful day look. The topics covered went well beyond age spots and I hope you agree that the results were fabulous!
Please enjoy the video. I’ve included a step by step summary and the names of the products that we used below. You can see more of our makeup tips here.
Step 1: Apply Primer
The first thing that Ariane did was to apply some Ariane Poole Retexturizing Face Primer with SPF20. She explained that using a primer with SPF is important if you have pigmentation from sun damage in the past.
Step 2: Use the Right Foundation
Ariane then applied some Ariane Poole BB Cream in Medium. She explained that BB Cream stands for “Blemish Balm.” This hydrating foundation covers pigmentation and age spots – not just blemishes, as some people think.
It is applied with the fingers and massaged into the skin. It also includes SPF 30, so it may help to prevent further sun damage. BB Cream can be applied under the eyes. It is a comfortable foundation to wear and gives both radiance and glow.
Step 3: Carefully Apply Concealer
Ariane then used an Ariane Poole Mineral Illuminating Pen in Medium on the top of Sylvia’s cheek bones, not right under the bottom eye lashes.
Step 4: Shape Your Eyebrows
Ariane then demonstrated the right way to shape your eyebrows. She explained that you should brush them down, filling in a line along the top and then brushing the lashes back up. Ariane reminded us that our eyebrows should mimic our natural hair color. She then applied a very gentle Bobbi Brown Brow Pencil in Ash.
Step 5: Use the Right Eyes Shadow
For Sylvia’s eyes, Ariane used a creamy eye shadow in a bronze color – Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Bronze. She also mentioned Ariane Poole Eye Shine in Constellation as another option.
Ariane recommended cream shadows for older skin because they are crease resistant and create luminosity.
Step 6: Apply Eye Liner
Ariane then applied an Ariane Poole Super Wear Gel Pencil in Sienna to the base of Sylvia’s top and bottom eyelashes to add a bit of brightening and definition.
Step 7: Apply Mascara
Next, Ariane applied Ariane Poole Navy Mascara to Sylvia’s eyes. She recommended that older women use navy mascara instead of black because it makes your eyes look whiter.
You can also apply a navy mascara over black to brighten your eyes without making them look too heavy.
Step 8: Accentuate Your Cheeks
Using a brush on the apple of the cheek, Ariane applied some Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge and Ariane Poole Under Eye and Face Brightener. It gave Sylvia’s entire face a luminous glow.
Step 9: Use an Eye Curler as Your Secret Makeup Weapon
Ariane then used her secret weapon for eyes – a small battery run Heated Eye Lash Curler, which she held gently on Sylvia’s lashes for 5 seconds.
Step 10: Love Your Lips
Finally, Ariane outlined Sylvia’s lips with an Ariane Poole Lip Pencil in Teaberry along with an Ariane Poole Luxury Lip Gloss in Pink Peony.
It was clear that Sylvia and Ariane had a fantastic time working on this video together. I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as we enjoyed making it!
