People don’t believe me when I say I’m shy. Luckily, I love people. I’m a born helper, so setting others at ease helps me get past my own shyness.
Part of getting past shyness comes from confidence. Much of my confidence comes from inside, but to be honest, some of it does come from my outward appearance. I told a friend I usually just see at conferences how white my hair was becoming. She said she could never tell because she thought my hair always looked dark to her. That’s because I always had fresh color and even a blow out before I go to a conference! Having great hair is one thing that gives me confidence.
One thing guaranteed to give confidence is a beautiful smile. Talking with friends my age, it seems like more of us didn’t see an orthodontist when we were kids, but we’ve all made sure our own kids have. Straightening your teeth to improve your smile may be a great way to boost your confidence. With New Year’s right around the corner, now is the perfect time to get started. Is it time for you to focus on yourself and building your own confidence for 2016?
I’m committed to making the new year one where I take charge of my physical care. Whether it’s working with my doctor or my physical therapist for my shoulder problem, I am going to spend some time making sure I’m taken care of this year. Luckily, as my kids are getting bigger, there’s more time for me. Invisalign may be that for you.
Invisalign is a series of clear trays used to straighten your teeth. It’s an alternative to metal braces. The aligner trays are custom made just for you. A new tray is worn about every two weeks to gradually shift your teeth into alignment. Trays are worn constantly, and should only be removed to eat, drink, or brush your teeth.
The breadth of teeth problems Invisalign can treat has really expanded since it was first introduced. Invisalign can effectively correct more complex cases such as overly crowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, open bite, crossbite, overbite and underbite. That’s a lot of bites!
Here’s an example of what Invisalign can do for your smile. This is my clincheck, a video of treatment that’s created when you first start treatment.
As an adult Invisalign patient, you typically visit your doctor once every six weeks or so to ensure that treatment is progressing as planned, and to get your next sets of aligners. The trays are barely noticeable, unlike metal braces. Most people won’t even notice you are wearing your trays.
You can find an Invisalign provider through the Doctor Locator here.

I've never had braces. Maybe I should try it during my life after 50 and finally straighten my bottom teeth.

I was almost ready to do this, then I backed out. I might do it if I won it!

I worked for an orthodontist for years and saw some excellent results from Invisalign - it can't work miracles but it can certainly improve your smile if your teeth are not too grossly out of place. Good luck to whoever wins it - it's very expensive in Australia so I imagine it would be in the US too - it's a great prize :)
