Most of us think we’d have our makeup routines down by the time we hit 40, but as Margaret Manning’s video illustrates, there’s always room for some amazing improvements! See more helpful videos on Margaret’s YouTube channel.
Most of us started applying makeup in our teens, when our goal was to look older and more mature. It was a rite of passage. During my conversation with professional makeup artist Ariane Poole, I realized that many of us have continued to use the same techniques that we used high school. In many cases, we even use the same products.
Well, since Mother Nature has taken care of the need for us to look a little older, it’s probably time for us to focus our attention on feeling comfortable and looking fabulous instead!
In this video, Ariane demonstrates some simple makeup application techniques that work well for mature skin.
I start with my own makeup applied. Then she removes the makeup from just one side of my face. Being exposed like that was terrifying! She then proceeds to make some wonderful “enhancements,” to my look. I was amazed by how just a few simple changes could make such a big difference.
For example, what she does with my brows is just amazing! In addition, I would have never thought to apply concealer where she tells me.
Later in the video, Ariane shares some products that can really make a difference for older skin. For example, she demonstrates some options for primers, cream blushes and lightweight foundations. The highlight of the show though, in my opinion, was the heated eyelash curler. I couldn’t help buying one myself, right after the filming!
As with all of my interviews with Ariane, she delivered all this in a fun-loving, positive and casual way. She truly does embrace the spirit of positive aging, not anti-aging, which is refreshing for someone in the beauty industry.
I hope you enjoy the video. Please take a look and join the conversation at the end of this article. I have also created a list of all of the products that we mentioned in the video, just in case you are curious.

love, love, love the tip about putting concealer a bit lower under your eyes. Makes all the difference. And a tiny touch of highlighter or illuminator on the Cupid's Bow of your lips is fun. Thanks for sharing tips for real women. I can't wait to see more.

Wow, I love how she made little changes with the makeup you already have. The eyebrows and the lipliner changes are so small but have a big impact!
