About four years ago, Sharon Greenthal and Anne Parris asked me to write this weekly column for Midlife Boulevard, and it has been a joy to participate in this community and build an audience of friends. When I started my blog in 2010, I had no idea how important it would become as a key component in my own reinvention and re-entry to the career world. The blog has kept me relevant, engaged, educated and a part of vital conversations on marketing in a digital world.
Of course, the blog has been predominantly about my reinvention of style and health, but now I have a success story swirling around career reinvention and in the words of the accomplished Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, “I DID IT!”
I have been named the Editor-in-Chief of two successful local magazines in San Antonio! San Antonio Woman and 78209 Magazine. I began freelance writing for them last year, and joined full time in May willing to do anything to just be a part of the staff. I had no idea at that time, the current editor was pondering a move. San Antonio Woman is actually the most successful regional magazine in the country. My first issue will be the 14th Year Anniversary issue.
While I am thrilled to be the Editor of the print versions of these publications, I really believe I am in this position because I understand how to help this publisher also develop online and social media success. I can see the bigger picture on all sides. It came from many late nights of study, perseverance, learning from mistakes, and understanding how to develop my own brand. Needless to say, there is much work on my plate.
The bittersweet side of this story is I must say good-bye to writing for Midlife Boulevard for now. However, my blog will continue. Perhaps not with posts every day, but I will still participate in the Facebook group for The Women Of Midlife. You women have become my friends. Because you are so special. I do want to leave you with a final important piece of advice.
Keep This In Mind: Fashion, Beauty and Personal Style
- Beware of anyone who writes in such a way to make you feel bad about you. Comparisons are deadly and sometimes words are as well. Do not give anyone the power to have you thinking poorly of yourself.
- Beware of anyone who hooks you in with fashion, beauty and personal style talk and then attempts to pitch a money scheme. Put your scam radar on with some blogs which appear innocent, but tell you there will be big bucks in your life from following their plan.
- Beware of any bloggers who write as though they are the authority in these industries but give advice which is not right for you. Know yourself and what works and doesn’t work. Don’t compare yourself, or attempt trends which result in a loss of confidence. Personal style may be ageless but many fashion trends are not. Remember everything you wear sends a message about you!
As I have always said, confidence is powerful, joy and smiles are attractive, you can be confident at any age, size, or lifestyle. I am proof we can achieve our dreams over 60! This has been a dream of mine since childhood on and I am so thrilled to finally do what I got my journalism degree to do! Please join me for my reinvention updates on my blog and continue to support Midlife Boulevard. Anne and Sharon, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything.
I love you all! Keep smiling!
