Midlife Style: Cobalt for Fall 2014

Autumn fashion doesn’t have to mean muted color. Pop fall up a notch with bright shades of cobalt blue, one of the Pantone colors for fall 2014. Whether it’s a new pair of shoes like these Kate Spade penny loafers or just a new nail polish, this season’s coolest blue will keep you effortlessly chic and on trend.

Avoid a head-to-toe monochromatic look with cobalt, or you might look like the TARDIS on Doctor Who. Pair it with neutrals like black or gray to make a little bit of cobalt go a long way.

Though fashionable, key wardrobe pieces could be kept in rotation for years, so think quality, like a cashmere sweater or beautiful suede flats. Cobalt for fall 2014 can last far past the end of cool weather, and bring some brightness to your wardrobe over and over.

As style columnist Pam Lutrell says, dress with flair by choosing quality pieces that last and layering in accessories to change up your key wardrobe pieces.

This blue is beautiful. I like the bag and the dress, but realistically I can probably afford the nail polish - no?
