Celebrate Bladder Health Awareness Month With a Gift!

This is a momentous occasion. It is my first post to Midlife Boulevard and, coincidentally, Bladder Health Awareness Month. To celebrate and share, I am inviting everyone to try new Always Discreet for sensitive bladders. Yep, Always is giving away free samples of its new Always Discreet line of products, including their incontinence pads and undergarments. I am proud to have been asked to help them get the word out.

For those of you who don’t know, Always Discreet is designed specifically to help manage the unexpected leaks that sometimes happen when living life the way we active midlifers do. You know what I am talking about – when you sprinkle a little tinkle when you cough, laugh, dance or exercise, or for others, maybe an uncontrollable urge before reaching a bathroom.

This new line of products includes liners, pads and underwear specially designed to help women with sensitive bladders, from those small little leaks up through heavier leaks. These products were designed by reapplying extensive research, technical innovation and consumer knowledge in the Feminine Care category.

While a lot of women are using period protection for their sensitive bladders, many women don’t realize that menstrual pads were not designed to manage bladder leaks. Always Discreet liners and pads were developed specifically for urine, which is thinner than menstrual fluid. In fact, the absorbent material in new Always Discreet is also used in baby diapers, storing fluid deep in the core and away from the surface for incredible dryness and protection. It works for a baby’s comfort, and it works for this application. Smart move Always!

GOT A QUESTION? ASK AN EXPERT!

I am a Registered Nurse and have been a nurse for over 40 years. The first 10 years of my career was spent in a traditional nursing role at the University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center. After leaving my job there in Labor and Delivery I went to work for Procter & Gamble, where I happily stayed for 26 years. While at P&G, I was a member of the team that launched the Tampax and Always site for teen girls, BeingGirl.com.

About 3 years after retiring from P&G, I was offered the opportunity to work for a P&G partner that supports the Tampax and Always BeingGirl website. Some of my professional time has been spent answering health related questions from a variety of professionals, product users, friends and family.  It isn’t a matter of telling anyone what to do – far from it.  It’s about providing facts and data about health, so decisions about how to manage someone’s unique situation can be made using the best information possible.

Visit the Always Discreet site to find helpful content about incontinence and can also ask questions from health, aging and fitness experts. As one of the women’s health experts for the brand, I’m in great company. Check out the information provided by the other Always Discreet Experts: Barbara Hannah Grufferman, Positive Aging Expert; Dr. Marla Shapiro, Health & Medical Expert; and Valerie Waters, Fitness Expert & Celebrity Trainer. They also answer lifestyle questions, concerns about sensitive bladder issues, and offer exercise tips – so ask away.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

We’d love to know what you think of new Always Discreet incontinence pads and undergarments. Try the free sample and let us know. You can either send an email through the Always Discreet site or provide a comment to this post once you’ve tried it. Some of you may want to blog about this topic to let other women know that they’re not alone. No doubt, others would appreciate your tips and insights of what’s worked for you to live your life to the fullest while managing your sensitive bladder.

I am a registered nurse women’s health care expert who spends a lot of professional time answering health related questions from a variety of professionals and product users – consumers. Also, I am the one everyone in my realm contacts when they have health questions. Even when I don’t know the facts, I can research them and then relate them in a way that is more understandable than just reading the medical literature. Love being helpful in that way! That is one of the reasons that Tampax, Always and beinggirl.com have asked me to be one of their women's health experts. It isn’t a matter of telling anyone what to do – far from it. It is about providing factual information about health so decisions about how to manage it for one’s self, is made using the best information possible.

Thanks for the information. It is helpful to hear about products such as these. I had blogged about bladder control earlier this year. Like Shelley said, it is good to have these conversations. You never know who you are going to help!

There is some comfort knowing you aren't alone. But, the best comfort is using a product that works and is comfortable to wear. Hope many try the samples, even while they work their way through treatment options and Kegel's.

As I teach 8 group fitness classes a week, and pushed out 2 bigheaded babies years ago, I'm in need of pads for certain workouts. The underwear isn't me, but pads are a good solution.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to see that Always is on the ball when it comes to this product. I figured it would be a matter of time - what with Poise and all.

I have blogged on the issue of bladder control and the related products quite a bit. Each time, someone shares a story about why raising the issue is so important. Thanks for continuing the conversation and for your expertise.

Shelly: Thanks for letting me know that you also blog about bladder control. Will have to check it out. Bladder health is an important topic for so many of us. The more awareness the more information and the greater the possibility that someone will seek the help they deserve and discover products that will serve them well.
