Maw Maw’s Fresh Apple Cake

This ghostly image of my grandparents, my mom and her little brother recently appeared in my life. The double exposed photo from the 1930′s shows a smiling family posing for a camera and then walking away. My grandfather’s translucent image shows him tenderly reaching for his little boy. They are dressed up in their Sunday best. Perhaps this cake was the dessert my grandmother had baked and was waiting for them.

I hear my grandmother‘s whisper to me across the decades. The first line of her yellowed, handwritten recipe says, “Here is a good cake recipe I want you to try,” and it concludes with “sure is a good moist cake.”

Joan, I treasure the handwritten recipes as well as the photos I have. I'm so glad this double exposed image wasn't thrown away, it tells such a story. Good luck with baking!

I look forward to trying this as I learn to cook & bake from scratch! At first I was trying to enlarge the recipe...then I saw your link! Thank you so much for clarifying it! My grandma made something similar....not so lucky to have her hand-me-downs. Your photo is priceless with the blurry/out-of-focus effect. Remember when we'd toss such pictures!? This is beautiful! Thanks for grabbing my interest in baking something easy and yummy! ]Joan
