Did you know that today is National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day?
I know! I had no idea, either. Until now.
And so, in honor of the non-traditional holiday, I bring to you several deliciously weird-sounding ice cream recipes.
My friend Mandee over at The Kitchen Wife has this really interesting Pear Ginger Ice Cream recipe that will tantalize your taste buds.
And our very own Susan of That Susan Williams brings a Goat Cheese Ice Cream with Boozy Cherries and Hot Fudge Sauce to the table. The cherries alone make me want to sign right up.
Looking for a more classic ice cream recipe? Susan also has a Heavenly Vanilla Bean Ice Cream that looks to die for. Or stick around the Boulevard and see what Susan’s shared with us here. This Homemade Bourbon Peach Ice Cream with Buttered Pecans looks phenomenal. I’m pretty sure I need to move in with her for a few weeks of ice cream treats sometime soon.
Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream isn’t just for fall. It’s one of my favorite flavors, and when you can get canned pumpkin pretty much anywhere it’s a great idea for a summer treat. Lauren’s Latest has a delicious looking recipe for you.
Next pop over to Recipe Renovator where Stephanie has a healthy banana split recipe that includes a Roasted Banana-Rum Ice Cream. The recipe also covers all the other delicious ingredients, like an easy chocolate sauce, a sour-cherry-rum sauce and chocolate dipped bananas. There’s loads of chocolate there – if you’re worried about the flavor at all.
This Spinach Ice Cream from Chocolate Covered Katie intrigues me, but I will admit that I’m more interested in trying this Avocado Frozen Yogurt. And if the green color frightens you? Jen of Yummy Healthy Easy has a Chocolate Avocado Ice Cream recipe you should check out. After all, haven’t you heard how avocado in a smoothie is delicious? How different could this be?
Caramel Corn Ice Cream. Can you imagine it? I couldn’t. Until I saw this recipe from Amanda at Fake Ginger.
Blueberries and basil? Who would ever consider the two together? Kelsey at The Farmer’s Daughter has. And it’s gorgeous. Check out her Blueberry Basil Ice Cream, if only to have a look at the color! And then hop over to her Mojito Ice Cream. Because rum and ice cream? Sounds heavenly, doesn’t it?
And for those who need to go dairy-free, but want a sweet treat to celebrate anyway? This Dairy-Free Vanilla Ice Cream and Ganache over at Nom Nom Paleo could be exactly what you need. Or not, that’s okay, too. As for me? I have a feeling I’m going to be living off of that ganache once I try it.
So, there you have it. A few deliciously interesting ice cream recipes. Do you have a favorite that you’d like to share? Leave a link in the comments!

Yesterday, I visited the Cayuga Creamery in Interlaken, New York, one of my favorite ice cream places. I like unusual flavors, and they had one - Asparagus. Just asparagus. Tasted it, and not my type. On the other hand, I've really enjoyed garlic vanilla ice cream. Some of those sound yummy, like the caramel corn.

Garlic vanilla? How intriguing! But yes, asparagus sounds like it would need some other flavors to go with it - something sweet to balance it out. But good for you for trying! I need to be more adventurous. Some of these flavors look so good.
