Today I’ll be sharing a recipe that has become a tradition at my house for New Year’s Day. New Year’s Day…that day when most of us stayed up until midnight to welcome the New Year. It’s a good day to reflect on the year that has passed and consider the future. I usually toast the old and welcome the new with a glass of something bubbly. Of course the New Year must begin with a healthy breakfast including orange juice. The ingredients for the Mimosa are usually at my house over the New Year holiday so I will have a glass (or two!) at breakfast to begin the year.
1/2 ounce Cointreau or Triple Sec (optional)
1 1/2 ounces Orange Juice
Champagne (see tips)
1/2 slice orange (optional)
1. Chill champagne flute and all ingredients.
2. Mix Cointreau and juice in glass
3. Top with champagne
If the college students are at home you can make a Mimosa Mocktail: Use 1/2 orange juice & 1/2 Ginger Ale.
Champagne is a sparkling wine made in France following specific rules. You don’t have to use real champagne in this recipe. Any sparkling white wine will do. If you’re not sure what to purchase tell your wine merchant that you need a sparkling wine to make a champagne cocktail. I love Prosecco, a sparkling wine made in Italy, and used LaMarca Prosecco in this recipe.
